It has been unearthed that saplings, even cuttings, have been stolen from their parent plants all across the United Kingdom.
During lockdown alone, an estimated 1.2 million plants have been separated from their ‘Mother Plant’ and been given to human ‘Plant Mums’.
Lots of the Mother Plants believe that their sapling had died and was taken away by nurseries to be buried properly.
Now, it is coming to light that lots of these saplings were actually stolen by the ‘Garden Centres’, where these Plant Mums had chosen to disperse their seed.
Saplings have been victims of plant trafficking and illegal adoption.
What is more shocking is the brazen nature of how humans have tried to make this an acceptable part of everyday life. The ‘Plant Mom’ aesthetic is ever more present in society.
There are online stores where you can go and buy young saplings that truly have no idea what is going on. There are even physical stores that are openly selling saplings to people on the street.
